In the early 1980s a young Yngwie Malmsteen mailed a demo across the Atlantic, instantly earning a reputation as a guitar virtuoso and giving Swedish hard‑rock its first major breakthrough abroad. Decades later, dozens of Swedish bands headline the world’s biggest festivals, illustrating how the genre grew from that initial spark into a lasting export success.
