Bruno Fioretti, nicknamed “Mandrake”, is a compulsive gambler who spends every day at Rome’s horse‑racing track. His bad luck multiplies when he wagers heavily on a single horse and discovers his wife is having an affair with his best friend, who takes advantage of his constant absences. Broke and betrayed, Mandrake resolves to place one final, desperate bet.
