Roy Rogers, newspaper editor, investigates the death of Flying U ranch owner Sam Talbot, who fell from a horse. Reporter Connie Edwards, suspecting murder, joins him. Talbot’s will leaves the ranch to his 12‑year‑old ward Duke Lowery, angering Talbot’s niece Jan Holloway. After several attempts on Duke’s life, Rogers uncovers a plot by Jan, ranch hand Steve McClory and coroner Jim Judnick, who killed Talbot and plan to eliminate Duke to secure the inheritance.
