Harum Scarum

The American film star Johnny Tyrone travels to Bar Esalaam to premiere his latest picture. He is seduced by Aishah and then kidnapped by Sinan, who wants him to help assassinate the king. The kidnapping pulls Johnny into a dangerous political plot far from home.

Johnny escapes the palace with the help of Shalimar, a slave girl who is secretly the king's daughter. He confesses to Shalimar that he was brought to the Middle East to assist in the assassination plot. The revelation sets up a fragile alliance as they flee into the city.

Johnny reunites with fellow escapee Zacha and plans to foil the assassination by joining a traveling troupe of musicians. They aim to entertain Bar Esalaam's people on the last day of Ramadan, using the performance as cover for their mission. Johnny slowly earns the troupe's trust as they prepare.

That night, Zacha betrays the troupe and Aishah and her men ambush them. The musicians and their children face threats as Johnny is pressed to go through with the assassination. The fragile plan collapses into a deadly crisis.

Shalimar wrestles with her growing love for Johnny while the conspirators push for action. Aishah's men issue an ultimatum, coercing Johnny to kill the King to save the others. The pressure tightens around them in the tense city.

During the Ramadan festival, Johnny reluctantly moves toward the King’s murder, but Shalimar intervenes at the crucial moment, thwarting him. The failed attempt leads to the musicians and the children being sentenced to death. Bar Esalaam trembles as the city braces for punishment.

Their associate Baba, a dwarf, arrives and rescues the troupe, sparing them from immediate death. The survivors regroup and re-evaluate their chances as Johnny prepares to enter Sinan's lair.

Johnny breaks into the King’s private chamber and explains he was blackmailed into the plot, even confessing his love for Shalimar. The King believes Johnny’s story and agrees to help him infiltrate Sinan’s lair.

Inside Sinan’s lair, the real mastermind is revealed to be Prince Dragna, the King’s brother. Johnny defeats Sinan, but learns Dragna’s forces have already grown and seized control of the town.

Johnny, the King, Shalimar, the musicians, and Zacha rally loyal servants to reclaim Bar Esalaam from Dragna's army. The group battles through the streets, and the King pursues Dragna into his stronghold.

In a climactic chess duel, the King defeats Dragna and banishes him to the United States instead of killing him. Order is restored, and the survivors celebrate their narrow victory.

With Bar Esalaam at peace, Johnny and Shalimar, now married, honeymoon in Las Vegas along with a few of her dancing girls. The unlikely couple begins a new life together after the danger has passed.
