After the Civil War, guerrillas who rode with Quantrill and Bill Anderson—Frank and Jesse James, the Younger brothers, the Ford twins, Clell Miller and Arch Clements—swear allegiance to the Union but feel crushed by Chicago railroad interests. They turn to robbing banks, trains and stagecoaches, while determined Pinkerton agents pursue them.
