Set in a Mexican border town, Arthur befriends the cantina girl Poll, who quickly falls in love with him, though his heart belongs to the dancer Rosa. After a cigar Poll gives him explodes and blinds him, he is misled into believing Poll is Rosa and marries her. Once his sight is surgically restored, Arthur departs for Siam in pursuit of Rosa.
