John Schuyler, a happily married lawyer, is appointed a diplomatic posting in England. An accident prevents his wife and child from joining him, so he travels alone. On the voyage he encounters the notorious Vampire, a relentless gold‑digger who entices and then morally corrupts her victims, draining their lives after an initial fascination.
