Yamashita Takako works in a department store’s food section and visits a Chinese restaurant to propose an in‑store branch. The chef‑owner, Wang Qingkuo, a Shanghai native who cooks himself, dismisses her. When Wang collapses from overwork, suffers partial paralysis, and rumors of closure spread, Takako quits her job and becomes his apprentice to help save the restaurant.
