Fireworks (2020) Plot Summary & Ending Explained

The film ends after the four strangers have been caught in a bizarre repetition of the same moment: each time the fireworks‑filled sphere detonates, the room explodes, yet they awaken again in the dim shed, the bulb flickering on as if nothing had happened. After several cycles the characters begin to remember the previous loops—first Cloudy Sky, then Black Orchid, then White Skull—realising they are trapped in a strange time‑loop that will not let them die. The realization forces them to confront why they wanted to end their lives. Cloudy Sky (Fahmi), a former pyrotechnician crushed by debt; Black Orchid (Raga), a doctor haunted by a fatal mistake; White Skull (Sukma), a mother shattered by the loss of her son; and the teenage Anggun, tormented by bullying and blackmail, each lay bare their pain and, in doing so, begin to care for one another.

When they finally understand that the only thing stopping the explosion from taking them is the hopeful inscription on the bomb—urip iku urup (“to live is to light up”)—they interpret the endless cycles as reluctant second chances rather than a curse. Together they decide to abandon the suicide pact, choosing instead to give Anggu n a chance to live. Having convinced her that her death would only hurt her family and that the bullies would not be satisfied by her disappearance, they let her make her own choice, and she too opts for life.
