In South Harbor, Shane Fahey is coping with the recent death of his uncle, Captain Marc Fahey, and the loss of his loyal dog, Blue, who died in a fire. Struggling with grief, Shane skips school, which leads to trouble at home.

Engine 55 faces closure due to financial issues and harsh media coverage. Shane's father, Connor, is the captain and works hard to keep the firehouse running despite the challenges they face.

The firehouse receives a call about a blaze at a vacant apartment but faces equipment failure that delays their response. Engine 55 arrives late and finds themselves on standby, leading to frustrations among the team.
