Read the complete plot breakdown of Felicitas (2009), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Set against the sunlit streets and grand estates of Buenos Aires in 1862, Felicitas Guerrero, Sabrina Garciarena, is a young and beautiful woman whose heart belongs to Enrique Ocampo, Gonzalo Heredia. Despite her family’s objections, their happiness is threatened when her father arranges a marriage to Don Martín de Álzaga, Luis Brandoni, a wealthy older man. To escape the forced betrothal, Enrique volunteers for the army and goes off to fight Paraguay, unsure of when he will return.

One year into the marriage, Felicitas gives birth to their only child, Félix de Álzaga. Tragedy strikes in 1869 when Félix dies from yellow fever, a blow that also saps the family’s fortune. A year later, Don Martín dies, and Felicitas—now 26 and well-off—finds herself courted by several suitors. Among them is Samuel Sáenz Valiente, a neighboring young man she met on a stormy night when he helped with her stalled cart, Michel Noher.

Amid this turn of events, Enrique returns from the war, seeking Felicitas again. Discovering her budding engagement to Samuel, jealousy takes over. He corners her in the study of her late husband, proposes they run away to a distant place, and the scene ends with Felicitas declining his offer. He later confronts her again and forcibly carries her away.

Shortly after, Felicitas’s cousin Manuela, Antonella Costa, and her mother Felisa Guerrero, Ana Celentano, arrive asking about her whereabouts. It is revealed that Felicitas and Enrique have gone to the lagoon; the gathering rushes there with revolvers drawn. In a tense moment, Enrique points his gun at Felicitas’ neck but orders the others to lower their weapons. The gun discharges accidentally, and Felicitas falls. Enraged by the sight, Enrique shoots himself, ending his life. Felicitas clings to life for a moment before dying in his arms, and in those fleeting seconds, the two lovers pass away together, their final wish to find eternal love in the heavens.
