A frantic woman rushes to a shop, desperately wanting to use the phone; however, after being denied entry, she ducks into a nearby phone booth, only to be engulfed by a sudden flash of light. Meanwhile, April and her boyfriend Kyle decide to spend the weekend at her parents’ secluded cabin. To their surprise, Kyle has invited along his friends Seth, Melanie, and Seth’s girlfriend Lex. On their journey, a playful Seth ignites fireworks in the car, which draws the attention of Sheriff Murphy, who issues them a warning.
Upon reaching the cabin, the group indulges in drinks and marijuana supplied by April’s family friend, Travis. In a surprising twist, Kyle proposes to April, but she declines, causing tension between them. Later on, they witness something crash in the woods, leading them to investigate, where they discover an alien spacecraft and tracks venturing away from it.
Upon returning to the cabin, they encounter one of the aliens and manage to shoot it. However, their plans to escape are thwarted when a fallen tree blocks the road. Out of nowhere, a spaceship appears above them, abducting Lex as the others flee to Travis’s home. April recounts the nightmarish events to Travis, who theorizes that these aliens and the U.S. government have maintained a secret treaty since the Roswell incident. The unwritten rule? Humans must not engage with the aliens. Now that April has shot one, they have broken the treaty; thus, the aliens are now actively hunting them.
The group hurriedly rushes back to the cabin to barricade themselves inside, while Travis decides to stand his ground against the aliens, leading to his possible abduction or demise. In a tense moment, Seth misidentifies Sheriff Murphy and Deputy Mitchell as aliens, leading to his arrest. Murphy reveals his personal vendetta against the aliens due to his wife’s mysterious disappearance. In a chilling twist, an alien employs telepathy to compel Murphy to turn his gun on himself and Deputy Mitchell. April arrives just in time to save Seth, but chaos ensues as he panics and flees into the woods, where he too is captured.
With mounting terror, April and Melanie find themselves confined in the basement: Kyle locks them there for their own safety while he attempts to prepare a defense in the bathroom with a knife. His plan utterly fails as an alien suddenly appears and carries him away. Alone in the basement, April reminisces fondly about fishing trips with her parents while Melanie, consumed by despair, chooses to end her life rather than face capture, leaving April to confront the impending danger alone.
Determined to save Kyle, April brandsishes a crowbar, but to her shock, the aliens withdraw voluntarily. Frantic, April attempts to lure them back by igniting fireworks, which tragically leads the aliens to abduct her as well. She awakens aboard the alien spaceship, exploring its eerie, dim corridors, where she uncovers the dreadful remains of human corpses and even an alien-human hybrid.
Meanwhile, in a different segment of the ship, Seth regains consciousness, stripped and bound to an operating table, where he becomes a subject to grotesque alien experiments. Eventually, April reunites with Kyle in a moment filled with both relief and dread as aliens discover their escape.
The story takes a grim turn when they awaken in a field, once again on Earth. As they navigate their way through the forest back home, they unexpectedly encounter U.S. Army soldiers at the crash site of the UFO, who, without hesitation, open fire on them. As they lay wounded, April presents Kyle with the engagement ring, which he tenderly places on her finger. Tragically, the soldiers finish them off, disposing of their bodies in a pit before incinerating them, thus sealing the fate of any potential witnesses. This horrifying revelation affirms Travis’s theory of the U.S. government’s deliberate concealment of extraterrestrial existence.
