What Happens at the End of Eternal?

How Eternal (2025) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

At the climax the surviving Eternals decide to defy the Celestial Arishem’s plan and prevent the Emergence—the birth of a new Celestial that would destroy Earth. Sersi, Thena, Phastos, Druig and Makkari rally together and use their powers to stop the massive celestial energy, sparing humanity and sealing the planet’s future. Their success comes at a terrible cost: Ikaris, who has been torn between the Celestials’ will and his growing affection for Sersi, refuses to kill her and instead launches himself toward the Sun. The film cuts away before we see the impact, leaving his fate deliberately ambiguous.

As the dust settles, Arishem materialises and summons three of the team—Sersi, Phastos and Kingo—into a bright beam of light. He whisks them away, presumably to the World Forge, the cosmic workshop where the Celestials created the Eternals and store their memories. Arishem tells them he will review their memories to decide whether humanity’s survival was the right choice; if he is displeased, he may return and pass judgment on the planet.

The remaining members—Makkari, Thena and Druig—board the Domo, a sleek Eternals’ ship, and set off into space to locate the scattered Eternals on other worlds. Their journey soon brings a surprise visitor: Pip the Troll opens a portal and drops Eros (Star‑Fox), Thanos’s charismatic brother, onto the vessel. Star‑Fox offers his knowledge of the galaxy and promises to help the trio track down the others.

During the post‑credits moments we see two further teases. In the first, Dane Whitman discovers the mysterious Ebony Blade and hears the voice of the sword itself, hinting that he is about to become the Black Knight. In the second, the Domo’s crew encounters Star‑Fox, establishing a new cosmic ally for future adventures.

Overall, the ending leaves the audience with a clear choice made by the Eternals—protect humanity at the expense of angering an ancient Celestial—and with several open threads: Ikaris’s uncertain survival, the fate of the three abducted Eternals, the hunt for their kin across the stars, and the looming presence of new characters poised to reshape the MCU.
