Escape from Mogadishu

In 1991, Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, is engulfed in chaos under Siad Barre's government. The threat of rebellion is palpable as tensions rise and the city's stability crumbles amidst increasing violence.

The North and South Korean embassies find themselves in a fierce competition for support from the UN. This rivalry exacerbates the already tense situation as diplomatic relations begin to sour.

The South Korean Ambassador, Han Sin-seong, is robbed while on his way to a crucial meeting with President Barre. This incident, orchestrated by North Korean intelligence officer Tae Jun-ki, is a pivotal moment that ignites distrust between the two countries.

As civil unrest escalates, the diplomats from both embassies are pushed to find a way out of Somalia. They face numerous challenges, with Ambassador Sin-seong's wife struggling to reach the airport amidst growing dangers.

In the midst of the turmoil, the North Korean diplomats face their own betrayal, leading them to seek refuge at the South Korean embassy. Initially met with suspicion, this unexpected situation becomes a catalyst for an essential alliance.

After a harrowing series of events, the diplomats finally reach the Italian embassy, where safety lies. However, tragedy strikes as North Korean intelligence officer Jun-ki sacrifices himself to protect Ambassador Rim Yong-su.

The remaining Korean diplomats arrive safely in Mombasa, Kenya, after the evacuation flight. The relief of escape quickly transforms into a bittersweet reality as they process the sacrifices made during their ordeal.

Upon landing, the diplomats confront the necessity of returning to their original factions for their own safety. Despite the bonds forged through their traumatic experiences, they must board separate buses, signaling the end of their alliance.

As they part ways, the diplomats exchange a final meaningful glance, recognizing the unbreakable connection formed through shared adversity. This moment underscores the depth of their experience amid the turmoil of conflict.
