What Happens at the End of Drag?

How Drag (2024) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

The standoff in the abandoned garage ends in a blood‑soaked tableau: almost everyone involved in the heist is killed. Detectives Brett Ridgeman and Anthony Lurasetti, the two getaway drivers, and the robber’s crew all fall apart, leaving only Ridgeman and the former convict‑driver Henry Johns standing.

In the tense aftermath the two men negotiate a split of the gold they have recovered. Their fragile truce shatters when Henry reveals a hidden gun, shoots Ridgeman in the abdomen and leaves him dying on the floor. Ridgeman’s last request—to share a portion of the loot with his family—is honored; a parcel of gold is mailed to them after his death.

The film jumps forward almost a year. Henry, now wealthy, has moved his mother, his younger brother Ethan, and himself into a sprawling mansion. He sits down with Ethan to play a hunting video game and says, “Let’s hunt some lions.” The line suggests that, having escaped the bloody showdown, Henry plans to keep hunting—whether more crime, power or domination—rather than retire quietly.

The ending underscores the movie’s bleak, noir‑ish message: the corrupt world rewards the one who can navigate its violence with a twisted sense of honor, while the more overtly moral characters—Lurasetti, the hostage Cheryl, and even Ridgeman—pay with their lives. Henry’s decision to keep the incriminating video hidden and to give Ridgeman’s family a share of the gold paints him as a reluctant anti‑hero, the only survivor who manages to keep a shred of decency amid a sea of betrayal and bloodshed.
