Now presented in colour, the story follows scientist Doctor Who, who inadvertently activates his new invention—the TARDIS, a time‑traveling police box. He, his granddaughters Barbara and Susan, and Barbara’s boyfriend Ian are whisked across time and space to the planet Skaro. There the peaceful Thals face a nuclear threat from the hostile, mechanised Daleks.
