Pere Portabella’s directorial debut opens with the line “defeated… but not conquered,” a phrase that alludes to the technical knockout his filmmaking suffered under Franco’s regime in the 1960s. Using the vibrant language of Catalan poet Joan Brossa, the film seeks to deconstruct the advertising rhetoric of that era.
