In the Ötztal Alps, wealthy farmer Fender and his daughter Wally run a modest farm. Wally rejects an arranged marriage to the dull Vincent and retreats to a solitary mountain hut, where she falls for hunter Joseph. After she impulsively takes a vulture chick and is attacked, Joseph rescues her, earning the nickname “Geierwally.” Jealousy and misunderstandings arise, leading Wally to challenge anyone who can kill Joseph, while Vincent plots to win her hand. The truth about Joseph’s relationship with Afra is eventually revealed.
