Father Joseph Mohr, assigned to Oberndorf near Salzburg, meets Magdalene, a beautiful prostitute. He tries to rescue her and they fall in love, testing his vows. His Prior, colluding with Baron von Seidl, frames him with false sexual misconduct charges. Meanwhile Mohr and schoolteacher Franz Gruber compose the hymn “Silent Night.”
