Bud Jablonski, portrayed by Jamie Foxx, is a humble pool cleaner whose life takes a dark turn when he stumbles upon a pair of vampires during a routine job. After successfully defeating the two creatures—a younger man and an elderly woman—Bud collects their fangs, revealing his true profession as a vampire hunter. Seeking the highest payout for his gruesome trophies, he discovers that older vampire fangs, known as “Elders,” command a premium price.

In a desperate bid to solve his financial struggles, Bud approaches Troy, a pawnshop owner played by Peter Stormare, but the offers are dismally low, hardly enough to cover the pressing expenses from his ex-wife Jocelyn, portrayed by Meagan Good, who plans to relocate with their daughter Paige to Florida due to the exorbitant private school fees. With only seven days left to raise the necessary funds—$5000 for Paige’s school and another $4800 for braces—Bud realizes he must return to the vampire hunting union from which he was previously expelled for his reckless behavior.

Thanks to the support of his friend, Big John Elliott, played by Snoop Dogg, and the union’s chief, Ralph Seeger, portrayed by Eric Lange, Bud is reluctantly given another shot at working with the union—albeit under strict surveillance and during night shifts that yield lesser pay. Assigned a babysitter in the form of Seth, played by Dave Franco, Bud must navigate a new code of conduct while trying to reclaim his status. This setup leads to humorous yet tense moments, especially as Seth proves to be more of a liability than an asset in dealing with the lurking vampire threats.

Meanwhile, a vengeful female vampire named Audrey, portrayed by Karla Souza, discovers the death of her fellow vampires and is determined to unleash her wrath upon Bud. As he battles smaller, less dangerous “Juvie” vampires to make ends meet, Bud quickly finds himself entwined in a web of danger when Audrey begins tracking him down, utilizing her cunning to trace his whereabouts through connections with other vampires, including his neighbor Heather, who is unaware of her own ties to the vampire underworld.

As tensions rise, Bud’s old habits come back to haunt him. He begins making choices that violate union protocols, like failing to report a civilian death, putting himself at risk of suspension just when he can’t afford the time. Seth, witnessing Bud’s determination to support his family, chooses to keep quiet instead of reporting him, but when confronted with an unforeseen attack, Bud faces his greatest challenge yet.

In a heartbreaking twist of fate, not only does Bud’s family become the target of Audrey’s nefarious plans, but Seth also transforms into a vampire, complicating their already perilous situation. Through a series of harrowing encounters, Bud must rally his remaining friends, including the conflicted Heather, portrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo, to rescue his family and thwart Audrey’s sinister ambitions of dominating the daylight.

Ultimately, in a high-stakes showdown within Audrey’s lair, Bud employs all his cunning and skill to confront her and save his loved ones, leading to a spectacular clash that challenges his every instinct and leaves him questioning where his loyalties truly lie. As the dust settles, and they drive away to safety, a shocking twist reveals that John survived the chaos, leaving the door open for future adrenaline-packed adventures.
