Dara (2007) – Full Plot Summary & Ending Explained

Read the complete plot breakdown of Dara (2007), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

The film opens at a stylish restaurant owned by Dara, Shareefa Daanish. She exudes an almost mythic poise, drawing attention with a calm, precise charm. That night, Dara invites a man named Adjie, Mike Lucock, to dine with her the following evening at her house. The setup feels carefully orchestrated, hinting at something lurking beneath the surface of civility.

When the next night arrives, the scene cuts to a stark, blood-splattered room where Adjie is shown bound by chains, the air heavy with fear and the metallic tang of fear turned dark. He struggles to break free, but Dara returns, her demeanor unchanged, and subjects him to a chilling test of “quality.” She bites into his stomach as a cruel, clinical measure of his resolve. As the torture escalates, Dara begins to slash at him with a chainsaw, the room filling with the sound of metal and ragged breathing. Just as the violence seems to peak, a bell rings, and Dara, with her chainsaw broken, steps away, leaving the doorway open as she exits to reset the scene.

The tension shifts with the entrance of a bald-headed man, Eko, Dendy Subangil. He is welcomed to the dinner table to eat, while Dara steps aside for a moment to rearrange things—then returns to dump Eko’s flower bouquet onto a bed in a separate room. She marks the calendar, crossing Eko’s name on the next day and writing Adjie’s name on the current date. Through these quiet, ritual gestures, the film reveals a chilling pattern: Dara is a cannibal who lures men to her house, then schedules them for a grisly end so she can have fresh meat every night. The guests who come to her table become tomorrow’s meals.

At the dinner table, a quiet, heavyset Rama joins Dara and Eko. The conversation, dominated by Eko’s tales of physical training and the lure of a six-pack, underscores a strange normalcy amid the horror. The tension thickens as Adjie manages to break the chains holding him and slips out, a dangerous turn that forces Dara to act swiftly. She retrieves a hidden crossbow under the dinner table and fires, striking Eko in the chest and then slitting his throat with a machete. The violence continues as she slashes Rama’s shoulder, and when Rama crawls toward the front door, Dara finishes him with a brutal decapitation, the sound and sight stark and merciless.

Adjie, hiding in the gore-slicked room, later confronts Dara again, injuring her with a stab to the hand as he makes a break for the front door and his car. He manages to step into the vehicle, the door squeaking shut behind him, but Dara, relentless and unyielding, breaks the car door with her chainsaw and slaughters him there, leaving no survivors to tell the tale that night.

The scene then shifts back to Dara’s restaurant, where the macabre routine continues in plain daylight. She inventories meat in her refrigerator, and the film reveals the shocking truth: the meat served to patrons is human. The camera glides through the dining area as guests appear pleased with the meals, savoring each bite as if nothing amiss. Dara, seemingly satisfied, finalizes the grim tableau with a sly smile aimed directly at the camera, a silent testament to the horror lurking behind a perfectly composed facade. The meal, the restaurant, and the ritual all converge into a haunting portrait of appetite, control, and the price of beauty.
