In December 1956 Hungary plunges into chaos as the Soviet army crushes the uprising. Fearing reprisals, many citizens flee the country. Young soldier György Angeli, who fought in the revolt, joins his friend Dániel Szerencsés on a train bound for Vienna, seeking safety beyond the Iron Curtain. Their flight typifies refugee wave after the rebellion.
