Zephyr and Moses both end up surviving their ordeal, though they sustain serious injuries along the way. Moses is stabbed multiple times but fights through his wounds, while Zephyr’s desperation drives her to break her handcuffs by biting off her own thumb during an escape attempt. Despite their injuries, they manage to escape Tucker’s boat. Zephyr’s experience teaches her the importance of human connection, which becomes a central part of her character development. The moment ends on a hopeful note, with Zephyr telling Moses he’s important to her, even as he lies unconscious, suggesting their bond will continue on land. Moses awakening and affirming “I knew it” hints at their future together. They are saved because Zephyr lights a flare that signals the nearby party boat, leading to their rescue from the shark-infested waters.

Tucker, the antagonist, is ultimately killed by a large shark. After a struggle where he tries to threaten Zephyr by shouting “boo” and attempting to scare her into the water, she manages to turn the tables. She sneaks onto the deck and shoots him with a harpoon gun, calling him a defiant insult. Tucker then falls into the water, and a massive shark emerges to devour him, ending his story on a poetic note. His obsession with sharks stems from a childhood attack, leaving a lasting fascination with the predator that ultimately claims him.

Interestingly, the sharks don’t eat Zephyr when she is thrown into the water—this may carry a symbolic meaning. One interpretation is that the sharks recognize her as an apex predator, perhaps because Tucker has recently fed them his previous victim. This moment could symbolize how Zephyr’s transformation into someone stronger and more confident allowed her to escape her past and her fears, marking her as someone on the same level as the sharks. Her shout of “Ooby Dooby” before attacking Tucker hints at her embracing this new sense of connection and love, as Moses explains the song’s deeper metaphor about seeking love despite hardship. The song’s playful phrase becomes a symbol of her newfound hope and willingness to pursue life and relationships, despite her previous emotional scars.

The film’s thematic layers reinforce these events. Zephyr’s recovery reflects her shift from hiding in fear to understanding the importance of human connection. Meanwhile, Tucker’s hubris—believing himself to be the superior predator—ultimately leads to his downfall. His obsession with the animal hierarchy blinds him to the danger that he himself becomes prey, symbolizing how overconfidence and detachment from empathy can be destructive. In the end, Dangerous Animals reveals that true strength lies in connection and understanding, and that even in the face of danger, hope and love can survive.
