Read the complete plot breakdown of Curve (2015), including all key story events, major twists, and the ending explained in detail. Discover what really happened—and what it all means.

Mallory Rutledge [Julianne Hough] is a young bride-to-be on her way to Denver for her wedding rehearsal, and the journey begins with a quiet moment on a video chat with her sister, Ella [Penelope Mitchell]. Ella’s voice carries concern—she hasn’t booked Mallory’s plane tickets yet because she wants to be sure Mallory’s happiness is real. Mallory answers with a calm-sounding but hollow confidence, and the exchange ends as she drives on, the road stretching ahead like a fragile promise.

A sudden breakdown changes everything. With no cell service and no quick help in sight, Mallory tries to handle the setback on her own. Near the back of the car, a man appears, Christian [Teddy Sears]. He offers a practical hand—getting the engine started and sending a small thread of hope through the tense stillness. Grateful, Mallory agrees to share a ride with him, believing she’s found a stranger who might be kind in a moment of trouble.

What follows is a chilling turn into coercive danger. Christian becomes increasingly insistent, speaking about fate and how their meeting was meant to be. He threads unsettling intimations into the conversation, and when Mallory tries to push back, he reveals a knife and forces the driver’s seat. The plan shifts from assistance to threat, and the pair crash violently near a guardrail. The car spirals, ends upside down, and Mallory discovers her leg trapped in the wreckage while Christian slowly regains consciousness, offering a cruel reminder that she’s not free to choose.

Disoriented and terrified, Mallory contemplates every possible way to survive. She cozies into a hoodie, drinks the last of her water, and waits for an opportunity. When Christian returns, he speaks again of fate, his demeanor a blend of menace and ritual. Rats scuttle through the ruined space, and Mallory, driven to a breaking point, kills one and improvises, even drinking her own urine to endure. Christian unveils a more shocking plan: he’s holding a family hostage and has given Mallory a tool—a saw. At first, she misreads his intent, but his message is clear: if she doesn’t cut off her own leg, she will surely die.

A brutal storm roars in, and the night passes in a blur of fear and calculation. When a chance to break free arrives, Mallory seizes it, attacking Christian and tossing his keys far from reach. A police car appears on the curve, but Christian’s influence over the moment causes confusion, and the car departs with him still in control. The vehicle begins to flood, and Mallory fights to survive long enough to escape. She manages to free her leg through sheer grit, aided by the rising water that carries away the last constraint.

Her next destination is the cabin where Christian claimed to stay. There, a grim scene unfolds: Christian has already killed the homeowners and is holding their daughter, Katie [Madalyn Horcher], as a hostage. Mallory steadies a gun she found, confronting Christian with a calm determination, insisting that she will shoot if he moves. The confrontation grows deadly as Katie flees and Mallory and the girl work together to resist Christian’s violence.

In a desperate struggle that tests every limit of courage and endurance, Mallory fights Christian in a brutal climb toward the exit. She finally leverages the situation, pushing him from a second-story balcony. He crashes to the ground, his leg ensnared in a bear trap, unable to escape. Mallory, wounded but determined, retrieves the knife and offers Christian the same chance he gave her—an end to a brutal night. He succumbs to his injuries, and Mallory, now limping, leads Katie away as the front door slams shut behind them, the danger behind them but the road ahead uncertain.
