The documentary closes on the same restless curiosity that has driven Hersh for half a century. In a dimly lit room in Gaza, he leans over a table with an unnamed informant, listening to first‑hand accounts of civilian suffering and the ways in which the conflict is being framed and concealed. The camera lingers on his notebook, the faint glow of a laptop screen, and the quiet determination in his eyes, suggesting that even after decades of exposing My Lai, Watergate and Abu Ghraib, he is still chasing new leads that challenge powerful narratives.
The film then pulls back to the present day: Hersb Hersh, now a freelance investigative journalist, lives with his wife, Elizabeth Klein, and their three children in Washington, D.C. He continues to write columns and commentary, most recently focusing on the Israel‑Palestine war and accusing the Israeli government of deliberately targeting civilians. Rather than offering a tidy wrap‑up, the ending leaves viewers with the sense that Hersh’s career is an ongoing inquiry—a life spent pulling back the curtain on the stories those in power would rather keep hidden.
