In the film’s climax Costão finally sees the truth break through the web of lies that the powerful Alemao family and a compromised CBI have woven around him. After being framed for the murder of Peter D’Mello—an incident that occurred when the desperate customs officer was forced to defend himself during a violent confrontation—Costão endures years of legal harassment, constant threats to his family, and a forced transfer to the Bombay customs office. His wife, Maria, fights by his side but eventually decides she can no longer bear the danger and the uncertainty that shadow their children.

When the case reaches the Supreme Court, the judges overturn the lower‑court verdict, declaring Costão innocent of the homicide and clearing the fabricated motive the CBI had manufactured. The court’s judgment is accompanied by a rare commendation from the apex authority, which hails Costão’s relentless pursuit of justice as a model of courage for the nation.

Although he wins his legal battle, the victory is bittersweet. Costão’s personal life has been irreparably damaged—his marriage has collapsed, his children have been uprooted, and the years he spent fighting the system have left him disillusioned with the very institutions he once served. Yet the film closes on his quiet resolve, suggesting that his sacrifice has lit a spark for those who might one day stand against corruption, and that his legacy endures far beyond the courtroom doors.
