How Colossal (2025) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.
Gloria finally follows the monster that appears whenever she stumbles home, tracking it all the way to Seoul. There, her colossal Kaiju steps onto the city’s playground and faces Oscar, who has turned his own rage into a gigantic robot that is tearing the capital apart. Oscar, desperate to keep his dominance, shouts an insult at Gloria before she raises the beast. In a stark, word‑less moment the Kaiju lifts him and hurls him away, crushing him out of existence.
The film’s creators left the ending deliberately brutal because Oscar’s actions amount to genocide—he has already devastated countless lives and shows no sign of remorse. As Anne Hathaway argued during the shoot, a cold, silent execution would have stripped the scene of emotional weight, so the director added Oscar’s final, angry outburst to make clear that his downfall is the destruction of what he represents: unchecked power and abuse. Gloria’s triumph, then, is not just the physical defeat of a monster but the symbolic killing of the toxic authority that has controlled her.
