Military doctor Kwiatkowski, posted at a barracks hospital, earns a week’s leave after operating on Colonel Kiziora of the UB. He and a friend hijack a truck to Warsaw, where among the ruins he reunites with neighbor Krysia and falls in love. After a brawl with a Russian officer at a dance in the Polonia hotel, he pretends to be a senior UB colonel.
