What Happens at the End of Clawfoot?

How Clawfoot (2024) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.

The ending of Clawfoot reveals a brutal and bloody confrontation driven by a mix of betrayal, revenge, and suppressed rage. Janet, the suburban housewife, has clearly endured years of emotional torment from her unfaithful and dismissive husband, Evan. Throughout the film, she has been pushed to her limits, and by the climax, she takes control by killing Evan with a kitchen knife, ending his reign of betrayal. Her actions are driven by built-up anger and a desire for liberation from the toxic marriage. Meanwhile, Leo, the contractor hired for a fake bathroom renovation, initially only interested in Evan’s money, gets caught in the chaos when Janet fights back fiercely against him, eventually overpowering and tying him up. The twist with Leo’s role emphasizes that he was just a pawn, clueless about Evan’s true intentions.

The pivotal revelation comes with the arrival of Janet’s close friend Tasha, who turns out to be just as unhinged as the rest. Tasha’s calm cruelty surprises everyone as she quickly takes charge, killing Sammy—who had arrived accidentally—and helping Janet eliminate Evan and Leo. What might seem like a home invasion thriller turns into a grim act of rebellion and survival, with the women turning the tables on the men who sought to exploit and betray them.

In the final moments, Janet is left alone in the blood-soaked house, lying beside her deceased husband, a mixture of exhaustion and numbness in her expression. She doesn’t appear to regret her actions, suggesting she has finally broken free from her emotional chains. As she lies there, the world outside continues obliviously, with the film closing on her quiet, bloodied silence—symbolizing her reclaiming her power, even if it’s through violence. The movie’s ending echoes the chaos and brutality it has built throughout, firmly imprinting the idea that sometimes, survival means crossing the line into darkness, and in Clawfoot, that line is brutally, irrevocably crossed.
