In the WWII-era Field 119 POW camp in California, Italian prisoners await release as Christmas approaches. To ease their longing, they share stories: a Roman recounts the hardships of an American marriage, a Neapolitan soldier remembers a penniless duke‑lieutenant, a Venetian gondolier speaks of love, and another recalls Sicilian spring festivals. The commander gives them a gramophone, blending their tales with music and radio news until they are freed and return home.
