In 1616 Flanders under the Spanish Habsburgs, the small town of Boom prepares its yearly fair when news arrives that the Duke of Olivares, governing for King Philip III, will visit. While the men panic and flee, the women—led by the burgomaster’s daring wife—organize spectacular hospitality to impress the Spanish guests.
