Captain Ron

Martin Harvey, a middle-aged office worker, feels trapped in a monotonous routine in Chicago. He lives with his wife Katherine and their two children, Caroline and Ben, leading a life that lacks excitement and adventure.

The Harveys receive surprising news about Martin inheriting a 60-foot sailboat named Wanderer, once owned by Hollywood star Clark Gable. Initially considering selling the boat, Martin’s plans begin to change when Caroline announces her engagement.

The family travels to St. Pomme de Terre to inspect the Wanderer. Katherine hesitantly agrees to accompany Martin, and their arrival marks the beginning of a life-altering adventure that contrasts with their previously orderly lives.

Upon inspecting the boat, the Harveys discover that the Wanderer is in complete disarray. Their initial excitement turns to disappointment when the yacht broker retracts the promise of a skilled captain, leaving them reliant on the unpredictable Captain Ron Rico.

Captain Ron Rico arrives in a spirited fashion, showcasing his carefree and unpredictable demeanor. Although Martin is skeptical of Ron’s abilities, he soon grows to respect him as they navigate their misadventures together.

During the Caribbean voyage, the Harveys encounter an unfamiliar island which sets the stage for chaos. Martin's adventurous side leads him to a hike where he meets a group of guerrillas, complicating their journey significantly.

Captain Ron brokers Martin's release from the guerrillas by offering arms in exchange for transportation. This decision causes a rift between Martin and Ron, as Martin firmly believes in keeping their yacht unarmed.

Amidst the chaos, Martin and Katherine rediscover their passion for each other. Inspiration from the romantic history of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard ignites a rekindling of their connection in the cabin of the Wanderer.

While exploring San Juan, Martin and Katherine find themselves wrongfully accused of smuggling. Their adventures take a wild turn as their children experience the island's nightlife, filled with antics involving Captain Ron.

After being released from jail, the Harveys find themselves in a precarious situation when a band of pirates steals the Wanderer. Stranded on a makeshift raft, they must adapt to their newfound survival challenge.

The Harveys unexpectedly discover their stolen yacht now under the control of the pirates in Cuba. Determined to reclaim their vessel, they devise a plan with Captain Ron to escape their captors.

Captain Ron pretends to be injured to motivate Martin into taking charge during their escape. With new skills learned from Ron, Martin successfully raises the sails, allowing them to flee from the pursuing pirates.

As the Harveys make their escape, the United States Coast Guard arrives after receiving a distress signal. The pirates are apprehended, ensuring a safe passage for the Harveys back to Miami.

As they approach Miami, Martin and Katherine reflect on their tumultuous but transformative experience. They grapple with the decision to part ways with Captain Ron, who has opened their eyes to new adventures.

Captain Ron undergoes a change when he sheds his rough exterior by the journey's end, appearing without his eye patch. This symbolizes redemption and new beginnings as he takes on a cleaner role as a captain.
