What Happens at the End of Boon?

How Boon (2022) ends, in short: the final scene, the last twist and what it means for the characters. The full ending explained, with every spoiler, lives on its own page.

Read the full ending explained

Nick Boon limps away from the blood‑splattered clearing, the last of Mr. Fitzgerald’s men collapsing around him. Fitzgerald himself lies dead, his daughter‑in‑law Emilia’s threat snuffed out, and the FBI agent who had been hunting Boon—Redd—also falls in the melee. With his wound still fresh, Boon turns his back on Catherine and Elijah, the grieving mother and son he briefly sheltered, and steps into the yawning darkness of the tunnel they were forced to dig for the criminal syndicate.

The tunnel is more than a literal passage; it is the film’s final visual metaphor for Boon’s fate. He walks away from the camera into the unlit shaft, not toward a sunrise or a hopeful horizon, but deeper into the shadows of his own past. The brief flicker of tenderness he felt for Catherine and her son is eclipsed by the inevitability of his life as a hitman—every step he takes is accompanied by the echo of guns, debts, and enemies that will never truly be settled.

In this closing moment Boon’s sharp edge is undeniably dulled. Earlier in the film he missed a shot that left him wounded, a clear sign that years of trying to abandon the trade have taken their toll. Yet his instincts remain lethal; he eliminates the last heads of the organization before disappearing into the darkness. The scene leaves us with the sense that, although he may have saved Catherine and Elijah from the immediate threat, Boon cannot escape the isolation his profession demands. He walks into the tunnel alone, carrying the weight of his reputation and the knowledge that more faces from his past will eventually surface—guns drawn, vengeance ready. The ending thus underscores that love can be a fleeting “boon” for a man built on blood, but it will never fully erase the shadows that follow him.
