How Asvins (2020) ends, what the final scene means, which earlier moments set it up and how to read the ending if the film leaves it open. The full ending explained, with every spoiler.
As the night in the isolated mansion reaches its climax, Arjun pieces together the myth Aarthi left behind. He learns that the twin gods Asvini Kumaras once gave a cursed pair of idols to a grieving farmer, and that the only way to seal the demon that later possessed them is to reunite the two idols with a holy thread. The video logs left by Aarthi reveal that the resurrected boy in the legend is named Arjun, meaning he himself is the key to ending the curse.
Realising that the spirits of his friends are trapped in a nightmarish realm rather than truly dead, Arjun decides to kill himself—not out of despair but to cross into the cursed world where the demon waits. In the demon’s cavern he confronts a mirror‑image of himself, the very entity that has been killing his companions. With the newfound ability to resist the dark side of his mind, Arjun wrestles the demon’s control, discovers that the same curse that binds the idol also gives him the power to command the demon, and then forces the spirit to obey.
Through a desperate exchange with the lingering spirit of Aarthi—still subdued but able to guide him—Arjun locates the second missing idol, the one the demon had taken. He binds both idols together with the sacred thread, shattering the demon’s hold. The malevolent presence collapses, the cursed realm begins to dissolve, and the spirits of Rahul, Ritu, Grace and the others are released back to the mortal world. Only Varun remains lost, having been slain by Rahul under the demon’s influence.
With the curse broken, Arjun faces a final choice: to die a natural death as the myth promises, thereby sealing the world from future threats, or to return to his life and risk the demon’s return. The film ends on a breathless gasp as Arjun chooses life, implying he steps forward to become a husband and father, while the lingering shadow of Aarthi hints that the darkness may yet stir again.
