The 1969 remake of the 1929 foustanella classic, directed by Dinos Dimopoulos, made Dimitris Papamichael and Aliki Vouyouklaki Greece’s top box‑office stars. It follows the usual formula: wealthy herd owner Mitros forces his foster daughter Astero into a marriage with another herder, though she loves Mitros’s son Thimios. After the rival dies, Astero’s grief drives her toward madness, but Mitros finally blesses the couple’s union.
