The documentary follows theatre director Ashley Thorndyke (Jason Hoyte) as he devises a deliberately “work‑in‑progress” piece conceived by writer Duncan Sarkies. It satirises drama‑school tropes—overly pretentious directors, bizarre warm‑ups like animal impersonations, primal screams and a Love Boat theme. Co‑director Peter Burger, fresh from broadcasting school, oversees a cast drawn from Wellington’s 1990s theatre community, including future Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, who learns to let go.
