Arjun Malvankar is a warm, patient, and unemployed man who keeps a quiet life in the suburbs of Bombay with his father, stepmother, and stepsister, while his elderly father continues to work hard to keep the family afloat. The routine is simple, but the city around him is riven with trouble, corruption, and the constant pressure of cash-strapped livelihoods.
When a group of ruffians extorts a poor man and tries to beat him into submission, Arjun steps in and delivers a decisive beat-down. This act of street-level justice brings him to the attention of the underworld and earns him the ire of a powerful local goon. The confrontation escalates quickly: the goon orders a fresh assault with a larger crew, and Arjun’s resistance makes him a target not just of thugs but of a broader criminal network that runs through the city.
A new inspector, Ravi Rane, sees something different in Arjun—he recognizes that Arjun’s actions stem from a genuine sense of justice rather than bravado. The inspector’s eyes don’t just soften toward Arjun; they also hint at a larger moral conflict brewing in the city’s politics and crime. Meanwhile, Arjun forms a bond with Geeta Sahani, a journalist who asks him for a favor; his willingness to help deepens their connection, and the pair gradually fall in love, bringing a personal stake to Arjun’s increasingly risky stand against corruption.
As Geeta’s investigation unfolds, the city’s power brokers come into sharper view. The minister Din Dayal Trivedi, who backs a broad web of illegal activity and supports the city’s crime network, mistakes Arjun for a rival operative aligned with Shiv Kumar Chowgule, a political figure seeking legitimacy and control in the upcoming elections. Trivedi orders Arjun and his friends eliminated. The move is brutal: a public murder of one of Arjun’s friends shocks his circle, and fear among witnesses leaves justice elusive as the killers walk free.
Grim as the situation becomes, Arjun’s world shifts again when Chowgule himself reaches out with an offer to collaborate. He is distrustful at first, but spurred by a sense that joining forces with Chowgule could curb Trivedi’s influence, Arjun agrees to work with him. What follows is a tense campaign against the criminal empire: Chowgule and his team systematically dismantle Trivedi’s illegal operations, targeting his Matka den and capturing key players like Anand Patkar, a wealthy but compromised member of the nomination committee. Yet the alliance is wavering. When Anoop—an aide to Trivedi—murders Anand and is caught in the act, the façade of reform begins to crumble.
A shocking realization hits Arjun: Chowgule and Trivedi have been manipulating him, using his actions as a tool for a political game rather than genuine reform. The evidence he carries is not published, his home and the car he was given are confiscated, and the dream of a clean fight seems to dissolve into a personal vendetta. Frustration boils over at a political rally, where Arjun is pushed aside and dismissed, his faith in his allies eroded.
Back at home, his father offers a quiet, powerful blessing, reminding him that he has always stood for what is right and that he is not alone in the fight against injustice. That blessing steels Arjun for a final, desperate bid for justice. In a cat-and-mouse sequence through the city at night, he breaks into Trivedi’s house to confront him, then moves on to Chowgule’s mansion to seize evidence of both men’s corruption. Chowgule’s men pursue him, and a rapid-fire chase across Bombay ends with Arjun wounded but determined. He slips into the awaiting arms of Inspector Ravi and collapses at the police station, where he finally hands over the incriminating files.
The story closes with a sense of earned justice as Chowgule and Trivedi are arrested, and Inspector Ravi gives Arjun a hopeful thumbs-up from a hospital bed. The film paints a nuanced portrait of a man who dares to stand up to a system bent on protecting itself, choosing integrity even when the odds are overwhelming. The final image is one of quiet victory, tempered by the cost of fighting for what is right, and a reminder that courage can emerge from a simple, steadfast heart.
