Director Ivan Balaďa could not finish this parable, inspired by Chekhov’s short story Pavilion No. 6. Only after the fall of communism, more than two decades later, did the film reach cinemas, where it earned negligible acclaim. Now viewers can appreciate the tale of an aging, exhausted mental‑institution doctor who sinks to the level of his patients.
