What Happens in Anveshana: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Anveshana (1985) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Rao dreams of publishing a book on birds and the origin of music from their sounds, a scholarly quest that sets the tone for the story. Pandu works as his driver, and the two live together in a forest house as they sketch out a thesis on the topic. To help write the book, Rao hires his friend’s daughter, Hema, a city girl drawn to the project. Meanwhile, James, a forest ranger, is on the trail of a man-eating tiger haunting the same area.

After Hema’s arrival, Rao’s manager Ghokale is brutally killed in the forest, an incident that is initially attributed to the tiger. Rao then brings in Amar to assist with the work. Soon, a bullock cart owner named Sooranna is also found dead in the forest, allegedly another tiger-caused tragedy.

As the plot unfolds, it’s revealed that Amar is actually a police officer in disguise who has come to investigate a series of killings in the forest. Following Sooranna’s death, he traces the tiger pawprints and discovers they belong to a human, indicating a premeditated crime rather than a wild beast. He also learns that the victims seemed to be following Hema as she wandered through the woods. With this revelation, he seeks Hema’s help in solving the case, and she agrees. The rest of the story then follows their efforts to uncover the killer and bring the truth to light.
