Another You

Con man Eddie Dash reluctantly agrees to accompany mental patient George as he adjusts to life outside the sanitarium. He hopes this easiest assignment will keep him out of trouble. The arrangement sets the stage for a sequence of increasingly tangled deceptions.

Eddie attempts to ditch George at a museum, but the panic triggers a chaotic escape. George accidentally knocks over Al Sandro, who mistakes him for Abe Fielding. The mistaken identity hints at the larger deception to come.

At the café, Al Sandro arranges a meeting to hand over a large debt owed to Abe. Eddie sees an opportunity and convinces George to go along with the ruse. The cafe crowd treats George as Abe, pulling him deeper into the lie.

George is brought to the mansion where Elaine, believed to be Abe's wife, remains convinced he is Abe. George struggles to admit the truth, but Elaine clings to the ruse. The deception moves closer to becoming a full-blown inheritance scheme.

Abe's business manager Rupert Dibbs presents cash and a credit card for 'Abe'. Eddie pockets the money and leaves, leaving George to cope on his own. Overwhelmed by the loss of Eddie's support, George panics and returns to the sanitarium.

Rupert Dibbs reveals his scheme to stall probate and secure the brewery by passing George off as Abe. He hires Elaine and other paid actors to maintain the deception. Eddie is drawn into the plot as a collaborator.

George tries to win Elaine's affection, and her view of the deception begins to soften. She slowly starts to regret what she and the others are doing to him. The personal stakes deepen as George's sincerity clashes with the lie he's living.

Moved by George's honesty, Elaine begins to regret deceiving him. George serenades her with a yodeling performance at an Austrian restaurant, and the two grow closer. They eventually spend the night together, complicating loyalties.

Eddie and Elaine escort George to doctors and a dentist to create false medical records. They overhear Rupert discussing identifying bodies through dental records, revealing his plan to murder George to claim the brewery.

Rupert secretly offers Eddie a large sum to murder George, attempting to eliminate the risk to his inheritance plan. Eddie is tempted by the money but senses the moral line he could cross. The deal foreshadows the dramatic confrontation to come.

On a hunting trip, Rupert eavesdrops on Eddie and George. Rather than hunting, George warns animals to flee; Eddie fires his gun and seemingly kills George. The pair's credibility hinges on a staged tragedy that becomes a turning point.

At George's funeral, Eddie gives an improvised eulogy. George reappears, revealing they faked his death. Eddie reveals he recorded Rupert's incriminating conversations, exposing Rupert's murder plot.

Rupert attempts to unmask George as an impostor, but the hired actors keep the ruse intact. Rupert is subdued by Eddie and Elaine and taken into custody. The plot to steal the brewery begins to unravel in front of the crowd.

George finally confesses his true identity to the crowd, but they dismiss it as a joke. In the end, he remains in control of the brewery with Eddie and Elaine by his side. The deception that began as a convenience has given way to legitimate leadership.

Sometime later, George and Elaine marry on a tropical beach. Eddie and his girlfriend Gloria celebrate the new partnership, alongside Rupert's former secretary. The film closes on a note of reconciliation and renewed ties.
