An American Hippie in Israel

A young American hippie and war veteran, Mike, travels to Israel shortly after the Vietnam War. He begins hitchhiking and bumming around as he sets out on his cross-cultural journey.

Mike meets Elizabeth, a stage actress, along with another female hippie named Tzila and her Hebrew-speaking boyfriend Komo. They join a larger hippie group and decide to form an isolated, clothes-free community on a deserted island. The plan is to escape societal controls by retreating to a place without borders.

Two gun-toting, mime-like enforcers appear and threaten the group, seemingly acting as the personification of 'the Man' out to silence the hippie uproar. The threat remains surreal and unexplained. The group escapes and heads toward the promised island refuge.

On the road to the island, the group sheds their clothes and revels in the sense of freedom as they ride in Elizabeth’s chic convertible. They pause along the coast to enjoy the moment and share intimate connections. The mood is a fleeting dream of escape from society.

They pull off for supplies, buying groceries and a live lamb to sustain themselves on the island. The purchase underscores their back-to-nature fantasy, blending practicality with a ritualistic start to their experiment.

They park the car on the shore and use a small dinghy to row out to the island, stepping onto the land with elation. The moment marks the official beginning of their isolated experiment. A renewed sense of freedom fills the air as they settle in.

That night, the hippies dance, skinny dip, and share a simple canned-food meal by the fireside. They profess love for freedom and for each other, while dismissing the world as 'full of shit.' The scene underscores the utopian fantasy clashing with reality.
