The final scenes reveal that the four thieves—Ronnie, Grady, Numbers and Royce—never made it out of the robbery alive. After the bank heist, their driver Royce panics when Grady and Ronnie argue, hits a pedestrian (the woman later called C), brakes hard and flips the car, which bursts into flames. The crash kills everyone instantly, so the “week in the remote cottage” they were supposed to wait out never actually happened. Instead, the dilapidated cottage on Dartmoor is a liminal realm—a personal hell where the dead are forced to confront the sins that defined their lives.

Inside this nightmarish holding‑area, supplies run out, the pipes burst, the television never turns on and time seems frozen, underscoring that the men are no longer bound by the physical world. Their boss, the unseen Mr Reynolds, never arrives; the only visitor is the woman who steps out of the wreckage.
