This spirit, Daniel, can possess anyone who repeats the curse inscribed on the knife, transforming their bodies into vessels for his malevolent games. Throughout the story, Marcus becomes the primary vessel, only to go on a killing spree controlled by Daniel’s spirit. Billie, realizing the danger, takes precautions to stop Daniel’s cycle of violence by using the cursed knife herself, forcibly confronting the spirit inside her. She manages to fight off Daniel by stabbing him in the eyes, breaking his control and banishing him momentarily.

However, the true culmination occurs when Jo, in a desperate attempt to end the nightmare, sacrifices himself. He allows Daniel to possess his body, stabbing him with the cursed knife. This act destroys Daniel’s physical form, reducing his essence to a pool of black liquid—an indication that the spirit has finally been defeated. Yet, the film’s closing scene reveals the cursed knife is still present at the cabin, hinting that the curse may endure beyond the characters’ efforts. This suggests that although they succeeded in removing Daniel’s spirit, the curse itself remains active, implying the cycle might continue and new victims could fall prey in the future.
