Aavesham

Aavesham is set in Bengaluru (Bangalore), primarily in private hostels where college freshmen from Kerala stay. The story moves between BK Hostel in the city, a college campus, and later a hostel in Tumkur where the trio relocates to focus on their studies.

The film takes place in contemporary times, during a single academic year in a modern-day college setting. It reflects current youth culture with dormitory life, nightlife, and the pressures of exams and academic standing.

The film explores four major themes: Friendship (the bond between Aju, Bibi, Shanthan and their mentor Ranga), Violence and Power (the cycle of intimidation and its consequences), Identity (Ranga's dual life as gangster and protector), and Responsibility (the trio's academic pressures versus street life choices).

Ranjith 'Ranga' Gangadharan is an eccentric Malayali-Kannadiga gangster who becomes a protective mentor to three college freshmen. Despite his violent past and reputation for brutal acts, he has taken a vow of non-violence after his mother's death, choosing to protect the boys rather than engage in bloodshed.

The trio consists of Aju, Bibi, and Shanthan, three college freshmen from Kerala living in Bengaluru. Aju is bold and thrill-seeking, Bibi is impulsive and fiercely loyal, and Shanthan provides humor while sharing in their adventures and academic pressures.

Ranga becomes attached to the trio as a protective figure, offering them safety and belonging in exchange for their friendship and loyalty. His motivation stems from a desire to guide young men away from the path he once walked, though his past as a feared gangster complicates this protective role.

Ranga has sworn a vow of non-violence to his late mother, choosing not to kill despite his feared reputation as a gangster. This vow creates tension throughout the film as his past violent impulses clash with his commitment to protecting the boys through peaceful means.

Rustication refers to the threat of being expelled from college. The trio faces academic pressure throughout the film as exams and disciplinary issues threaten their futures, adding a layer of consequence to their decisions beyond the immediate revenge plot.

Kutty is the senior bully whose psychotic menace drives the trio to seek revenge and eventually find refuge with Ranga. He represents the toxic gang culture within the college that escalates the film's conflict and sets the revenge plot in motion.

Amban is Ranga's loyal henchman who provides comic relief while offering blunt wisdom about living with violence. He narrates stories about Ranga's past and serves as a bridge between the criminal underworld and the trio's academic world.

Ranga embodies the theme of identity through his dual existence, he is both a feared gangster with a violent past and a gentle protector who mentors young students. The film explores who someone truly is when circumstances force them to wear different masks.
