Tino, a painter in professional and political crisis, learns his mother‑in‑law Selma will return from Europe. After his wife's death he still lives with Selma, whose ambiguous bond he wants to cut. He asks the maid Enedina to lock him in his room, where he reviews letters, notes and photographs. Meanwhile Selma’s son João waits at the airport, hoping for a loving reunion with his mother.
