A farmer named Knut Husaby protects his beautiful daughter Aslaug from suitors, favoring a marriage to Ola Thormundson, the wealthy farmer’s awkward son. Aslaug secretly loves Tore Naesset, a modest smallholder’s son. When Tore asks for her hand, Knut laughs and drives him away, even beating him. Forced to find another route, Tore crosses the fjord by boat and climbs a 50‑meter rock wall to reach Aslaug on the mountain summer farm, hoping to win her love.
