The series closes with the courtroom drama that finally forces Purdue Pharma to answer for the devastation caused by OxyContin. After weeks of gathering damning testimony—most notably the internal emails and recordings that Shannon Schaeffer turns over to the prosecutor—Edie Flowers and her team present a clear picture: the company knew the drug’s extreme addictive potential and deliberately misled doctors and regulators. The judge announces a settlement in which Purdue admits to fraudulently labeling the pill, a decision that shocks Edie, who had hoped the case would go to trial and hold the executives personally accountable. Behind the scenes, it is revealed that powerful political connections, including a lawyer linked to the White House, nudged the government to accept the deal.

In the epilogue we jump forward several years. The settlement and mounting lawsuits across the country drive Purdue into bankruptcy, and the Sackler family is forced to relinquish direct control of the firm. Although no individual family member is criminally convicted, they agree to a multibillion‑dollar payout to the states, a sum that still awaits final court approval. The series ends with a montage of the ongoing opioid epidemic—over 300,000 deaths and dozens of daily overdoses—underscoring that the legal resolution is only a first step toward healing.

The personal stories also reach their conclusions. Glen Kryger, after a brutal descent into addiction and a brief, hopeful period of sobriety, succumbs to an overdose in a run‑down motel, dying moments after he relapses. Shannon, haunted by what she helped market, leaves the pharmaceutical world, turning her experience into evidence that finally helps bring down Purdue. Edie, still haunted by her family’s tragedy, continues to advocate for victims, her voice echoing the series’ warning that corporate greed can have fatal human costs. The final scenes leave the audience with a mix of bitter justice and lingering unease: the corporate machine has been dented, but the scars it inflicted on millions remain.
