Ending explained
How 100 Yards (2024) ends, in short: the final scene, the last twist and what it means for the characters. The full ending explained, with every spoiler, lives on its own page.
Shen An’s journey culminates in a series of intense martial arts clashes that symbolize his internal struggle for recognition and respect. After repeatedly challenging Qi Quan and fighting against the expectations placed on him, An ultimately loses to Qi, but the true victory isn’t about winning the fight. It’s about understanding that the cycle of violence and rivalry has only led to further chaos and disappointment. The elders, tired of the endless conflicts, decide to banish both An and Qi, ending their rivalry for good. In the aftermath, Gui Ying, who fought to defend Qi, is left injured and told to never return, while she assumes a leadership role in the absence of An and Qi. The ending suggests that true strength isn’t just about martial prowess but about knowing when to let go of pride and violence for the sake of peace. Shen An’s desire for a rematch stems from his wounded pride and the belief that his skills shouldn’t go to waste. However, he realizes that his true calling lies beyond the competition and violence, seeking to forge a new path that hopefully brings stability rather than perpetual fighting. The film closes with a sense of hope, hinting that healing and progress are possible when older traditions give way to understanding and respect, even if the cycle of conflict has temporarily paused.
