David Compton abandons his pregnant French lover Louise Boucher, a Moulin Rouge dancer, to fight in the war and loses his memory. After the war he rebuilds his life in London and remarries. Believing him dead, Louise becomes a celebrated dancer under the name Deloryse, falls gravely ill, and learns David is married. She entrusts their son to his new wife, accepts a performance at a party, and dies of exhaustion and sorrow. Meanwhile, David, attending her show, regains his memory.
