Between 1979 and 1981, 29 African‑American males—most of them children—went missing or were found murdered in the Atlanta metro area. The cases lingered until 1982, when Wayne Williams was convicted of killing two adult men, prompting officials to declare the other investigations closed. Many grieving parents disputed that conclusion, suspecting a cover‑up. Four years after the verdict, “Spin” magazine editor Ron Larson and reporter Pat Laughlin traveled to Atlanta to uncover the truth.
